Atlanta, GA
Today I got to try out lunch at a new restaurant in Midtown Atlanta, 10th & Piedmont. It's a snazzy little place on the corner of well, 10th and Piedmont that just opened a few months ago. Huge waist to ceiling windows let tons of light into the modernly dressed insides. The couch benches in the corner were quite large and comfy and had a great view of the city outside.
After browsing the menu and getting a few suggestions from our wonderful server Fred, we decided on the Chicken and Waffles and the Chicken Salad Sandwich with the truffle parmasean fries.
The Chicken and Waffles were not at all what I was expecting. When our dishes came out, I was presented with what looked like 3 corn dogs with 3 dipping sauces.
Fred informed us that we needed to dip each bite into all three accompanying sauces to get the full flavor profile their chefs are going for. There is a north GA sorghum syrup, powdered sugar, and a homemade hot sauce that closely resembled a hybrid sauce of smokey tabasco and Texas Pete's. The syrup was nice and thick, almost like molasses, and had a nice, deep, sweet flavor. I tried to be polite and eat with a fork and knife, but I must say, it really took the fun out of the eating off of a stick experience, and it wasn't exactly the neatest way to eat either.
I made a bit of a mess with the crumbly outer shell but at least I get to show you what the insides look like, right? :) The chicken piece was quite large and made a nice accompaniment to the waffle breading. The chicken was cooked nicely, but just a touch dry, and had a mild flavor, so as not to overwhelm the breading. The waffle part, wasn't really waffley, but more so pancakey to me. I was little sad about that since I love me some waffles, but it was still good. On the sweeter side, the breading was a nice spin on a classic panc--- waffle. The sauces really did make the bite. I carefully dripped a few drops of each onto each bit I took, so as not to double dip or drop all of my crumbs into the rest of the sauce, and really enjoyed the sweet, spicy, savory bites. I even found out after a few bites in that there was bacon! Who doesn't love bacon on everything, right? Didn't really add too much to the overall flavor, but it was a fun surprise. Yes, it said it was in there on the menu, but I forgot.
The chicken salad sandwich was a pretty large sandwich on a toasted croissant. Sorry it's a little out of focus! It was delicious, rest assured.
There were large chunks of chicken in the salad. They were a bit on the dry side too but well dressed, so you don't really notice. There were little slivers of tart apple which added a nice crunch to the sandwich a added a nice lightness to the flavors. The veggies were fresh and made me feel a bit more healthy while eating my more indulgent entree. hehe... The truffle parmasean fries were skinny fries that tasted freshly fried. Cripsy and hot, though unevenly salted. I couldn't really find the truffle, but at least the sprinkle of shredded cheese made that easier to identify in each bite.
There is currently a ScoutMob special so I definitely recommend trying this place out soon if you haven't been around yet!
I'm impressed by the fast and attentive service and the cozy environment. There was a nice breeze coming in from the large windows and I really had a nice dining experience. It was busy at all, and the free parking out back was easy to navigate and find a spot.
Overall, How Nuts Are We About 10th & Piedmont?
Food: 3.5 coconuts. Good food, very filling, generous portions, but nothing spectacular or out of this world.
Service: 5 coconuts for our server who was patient, nice, fast, and attentive.
Repeatability: 4 coconuts. I hear good things about other things on the menu so I definitely want to come back!
Until next time... ☆*:.。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆
