Well hello Stuffed Foodies! This post is a special one since we are all in one place at the same time. Yay for reunions! To celebrate, we headed to some fast and cheap eats for takeout for a night of relaxing, catching up, and a blog post.
Little Village Grill is a local gem located in Third Ward, right outside of all those trendy eateries. It's a very low key place to grab a quick bite to eat. There isn't a lot of room to sit down, so we usually take our orders to go.
Today, we were in the mood for some pita, so we ordered lamb and beef gyros and a pork gyro. The gyro meats are your typical sliced meats off the vertical spit. It's a bit greasy, but it is spiced well. They aren't quite as flavorful as the ones you get at a more authentic Greek restaurant, but it gets the job done fast and cheap. The tzatziki sauce is average, but very necessary to complete the meal. It is also pretty liquidy so they make a very messy gyro so be prepared with some napkins. A tip to eat them is to keep the foil wrapped around the pita and peel away the foil as you eat.
The pork gyro is also another great item if you aren't in the mood for a traditional lamb and beef gyro.
We also ordered french fries.
Can I say that these fries are some of the best french fries ever? They are a perfect golden color, very crispy, and actually taste like potatoes. It's almost like the fries are breaded they are that crispy. I think the best part about the gyros is that they top it off with a few french fries! Make sure to eat your gyros and fries quickly or the fries will get soggy.
We also tried the potato salad. It's not your typical mayo based potato salad; it has a Greek spin with Greek dressing, feta cheese, and olives. It was pretty tasty and went great with the gyros.
There are quite a few more items on the menu to try at Little Village Grill. We will definitely be back to try some more fast eats.
Overall, How Nuts Are We about Little Village Grill?
Food: 4 coconuts. Good gyros for cheap but nothing really special.
Service: 4 coconuts. Your food is ready in minutes which makes this place a good lunch spot for those who are working nearby.
Repeatability: 4 coconuts. There are quite few types of gyros, salads, and sandwiches available to try, but if you are anything like us, you will only go for the gyros. :)
