Short Pump
Today I was my making my way through Short Pump when I decided I was in the mood for some pizza. I was happened to be passing by the movie theater and saw Two Guys Pizza and decided to give it a try.
The restaurant has a causal laid back feel, where you order at the counter and someone brings you your food when it's ready.
It's a pretty customizable experience too. Take a look at the menu:
After taking a few minutes to look over the menu, I went with a calzone. Ok, so it's not the pizza I was craving, but you can't go wrong with a calzone, can you? The combo # 6, which is your choice of calzone, a drink, and your choice of salad, is definitely the way to go. As long as you choose at least 2 or 3 toppings, it makes it worth your money. B) I got a customized calzone with the house salad.
As a side note, the service here is awesome! Very friendly people who are pretty sharp! The guy took our order from behind the window where I was admiring the pizzas, walked me down the counter rang me up without having to ask for my order again! I was impressed...
The salad came out within 3 minutes of my sitting down at the table. It comes in a little aluminum tray that is about 8" across. Definitely a sizable salad that includes, lettuce, purple cabbage, tomatoes, spinach, shredded carrots, lots of red onion, cucumber slices, and shredded cheese. All of the ingredients were super fresh and not wilty or slimy at all. That's the house balsamic vinaigrette dressing there on the side. That was tasty too :) Veggie quota for the day: check!
A little while later (it took about 12 - 15 minutes for the made to order calzone to come out) my calzone was steaming in front of me, ready for consumption.
This was a good portioned pastry that was filled with ricotta cheese, fresh spinach, artichoke, mushrooms, and sausage. The bread to stuffing ratio was definitely good- there was no skimping on anything in there. It was little heavy on the ricotta, but it just made for a nice filling. The crust was nice and crusty on the outside and a little chewy on the inside, just how I like it. The only complaint that I have was that the bottom could have been just a touch thicker. But that's really just because I enjoy bready crusty things. Hehe... The marinara sauce on the side had chunks tomatoes and lots of seasoning in it, and is one of the more liquidly sauces I have had. Nothing special, but not bad.
When I figured out I wouldn't be able to finish my food, I walked up to the counter to get myself a box. I only just made eye contact with the guy who took my order when he turned, and returned to the counter with a box. So smart! High five, guy!
So I really enjoyed my lunch visit here at Two Guys and definitely will return to try some pizza. For real next time.
So, How Nuts Are We about Two Guys Pizza?
