Once upon a time, a food truck appeared appeared in a parking lot...
Hello adventurers! It's me Petchi and I'm back from Sweden! I haven't quite adjusted back to my normal schedule yet, but as soon as I do, I will report on our latest adventure in Stockholm.
Today I want to tell you about a new tradition that I have on Wednesdays. Every Wednesday I take a short walk to this parking lot to get lunch from The Herban Legend. This truck has a different spot every day for lunch and dinner and I was lucky enough to find it near me on Wednesdays.
The Herban Legend Mobile Cafe serves up some tasty eats. They offer an assorted of dishes and types of cuisines that is sure to satisfy many eaters. So far, I've experienced Mediterranean/Arabic, Asian, Mexican, and American eats. They have a few staple items and a few rotating specials that keep it interesting.
The first staple on their menu that I've tasted is the Chicken Shawarma. Shawarma is an Arabic style of meat preparation that is very similar to a Greek Gyro. The spices a definitely stepped up a notch when compared to the gyro. This specific version is one of my favorites dishes at the Herban Legend. It's probably their most popular dish. The chicken is packed full of flavor and the wrap is nice and toasty when it's served. You'll also find tzatziki, tabbouleh, and tomatoes inside. If you like gyros, you won't be disappointed with this.
A rotating item on their menu is their tacos. They do seem to always have tacos but they seem to rotate the type. This week, I had the Asian Pork Tacos. They are served with slow roasted pork, Asian spices, with quick kimchi. Now I was sold on the quick kimchi. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect so I had to try it. Unfortunately, if you are familiar with kimchi, you will find this cole slaw a poor imitation of the real thing. It didn't have enough flavor to be called anything other than a vinegary cole slaw. It did go well with the pork tacos but it wasn't kimchi, but that might be better for some people. :)
Are you feeling like some comfort food? Try the Fried Green Tomato Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Melted Provolone, Havarti on crispy sour dough with a roasted red pepper aioli. Mmmmm.....
If you are feeling really decadent, try their Parmesan Truffle Fries. This serving can definitely be shared. The truffle oil makes this side dish really rich and delicious.
As food trucks go, this is one of my favorites in Charlotte. It's menu is small, but the staples are dependable and have enough variety that you don't feel like you get bored eating it every week. I know this because I do eat there every week. :)
Overall, How Nuts Are We about the Herban Legend?
Food: 5 coconuts. Great eats that satisfy lots of different palates.
Service: 3.5 coconuts. It's kind of slow for a food truck but they are always apologizing for how slow it is.
Repeatability: 4 coconuts. The menu is not too big, but there are a rotating specials. It's just a nice small menu you can depend on to satisfy your craving for something a little special for lunch.
Until next time, Hej då! :)
