Midlothian, VA
This place is a part of large burger franchise that is sweeping the nation. I had never been there so I really didn't know what to expect, but when we walked in, I knew I would be comfortable. It was a relaxed diner atmosphere, with super nice people. A happy gentleman, who appeared to be the manager, greeted us with a big smile and friendly conversation. Making jokes as we walked to our table, this was one of the warmest and most hospitable welcomes I have had in a loooong time. He left us at our table with big smiles and time to peruse the menu. (So, this is the takeout menu, but it has all the same goodies.)
Our waitress, much like the manager, was also super nice and attentive. She quickly came back with our drink orders, which came in fun little mason jars! AND they have DIET DR. PEPPER! Woo! Don't mind if I do...
We also decided to partake in the new appetizer promotion they were advertising- portobello tenders. These were tasty little tidbits. The breading was light and well seasoned and super crispy. The portobello slices were thick but cooked really well- they were really tender and tasted just like meat :)
Each order comes with your choice of a few sauces, though they were seasoned enough that you could pass on the sauce. We chose the creamy jalapeno, which was like a mild ranch with a tiny kick. Not spicy, but a hint of heat.
We both decided on the build your own burger to really get the most of our outing. I got a turkey burger with provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, artichoke hearts, and onions rings. OMG so many choices!!! The burger was really nice and juicy and tender. I would say it was one of the best I have had in a while! All of the toppings were nice and fresh and all made a presence. No skimping here! My only complaint was that the onions were cut a bit thick and were a little difficult to keep in the burger and to eat.
I think I may have gone a little overboard with the onions anyway... :)
My friend here in the Sharnado shirt ordered the "Serious Burger" which is 1/2 a pound of meaty goodness. Even after cooking, it was still a large portion and quite filling. I can't recall all of the toppings he chose, but like mine, they were all fresh and plentiful. The burger had a bits of burnt parts, most likely due to charring on the grill, but the overall taste was good. It was nice and juicy, and wasn't too greasy. Look! You can see the bleu cheese sneaking out from under the onion!
Also on our menu was an order called the "Best of Both" - a half order of fries and a half order of onion rings. The fries tasted like they were fresh cut in the restaurant, much like Five Guys fries. They were lightly seasoned with the house zesty seasoning, a mixture of salt pepper, and garlic. Nothing special, but a nice comforting addition to our burgers. The onion rings were quite nice. They were cut thin, cooked to crispy perfection, and were easy to eat. You could bite into one and NOT have the rest of the onion follow your bite on the way up! What more could you ask for?
So maaaybe most of our food today was deep fried, but I still enjoyed my meal immensely.
The 50's 60's music, casual diner atmosphere, pleasant and super attentive staff (I think we got refills from each of the waitresses working at the time- whenever someone noticed a glass was half empty), and tasty food really made for a nice lunch.
So, How Nuts Are We about Cheeburger Cheeburger?
