Carytown - Richmond, Virginia
It was a chilly Sunday afternoon and we were craving
burgers. My family and I found ourselves
driving through the eclectic neighborhood of Carytown, in Richmond, Virginia
during our hunt for food. Today’s
adventure began at Carytown Burger and Fries. This little burger joint is a small but cozy place
in a shopping center on the edge of the Fan District. The lot was packed and the restaurant even
more so. The counter where you order
your food was surrounded by people waiting in line to order. This place was busy! We had several minutes to take a look over
the extensive menu since the guy taking orders was on the phone taking a
massive pick up order for 8.
When it was
our turn, we were greeted by the nice but quiet gentleman. Everyone behind the counter seemed friendly
but remained relatively quiet, just working hard to get orders in and out in a
timely manner. After ordering, we had to
squeeze our way back out the front door to get to the covered patio
seating. There were little Halloween decorations
everywhere on the walls of the patio enclosure and a few crayon colored pages from the younger patrons. Look at the heating lantern that makes the room nice and cozy!
So after we sat down, we had plenty of time to take in the scenery and the atmosphere. A lot of time really. We waited about 35 minutes for our food to come out!! Not so good.
Eventually, our food arrived. Doesn't it look tasty?
The first burger that we got was the California. It was a giant juicy burger with guacamole,
bacon, and Swiss cheese - magic between two soft and fluffy buns. The burger was a massive serving for the
$6.49 it cost and was definitely worth every penny. The guac even drips down the sides of the
burger when you eat it since there is so much of it!
Crispy and salty bacon added just the right amount of crunch to the burger. The lemonyness of the guacamole was a nice
balance to the salty bacon too. My only
complaint was that there was too much mustard that kept trying to take over.
Next was the Barnyard Brawl.
A 1/3-lb. patty with chicken tenders, fried egg & bacon, covered in
melty White American cheese. A monstrous
burger that was very difficult to eat (politely in public that is :D). The burger stood about 5 inches tall and was
super filling. The bacon was crispy and the
egg was cooked perfectly (it didn’t drip all over the place). There was so much stuff in there that it made
it difficult to taste the chicken tenders, but mm. Good burger and a lot of bang for the $7.49 you pay.
The fries were fresh and hearty, had a nice flavor and were
nice and crisp.
I also tried the homemade limeade, but was a little
disappointed. Maybe they over juiced and
got some of the flavor of the pith, but the limeade had a bitterness to it that
wasn’t too pleasant. Still, it was not
too bad and not too sweet.
Overall, How Nuts Are We about Carytown Burger & Fries?
Food: 4.5 coconuts. Giant homemade everything burgers.
Service: 2.5 coconuts. Nice people too long of a wait. Repeatability: 3 coconuts. The long wait keeps me from wanting to go back but if I called in my order before heading over, definitely a 5.
Until next time... ✌⊂(✰‿✰)つ✌
