Virginia Beach, VA
So my family and I decided to capitalize on the holiday
weekend and trek out to the beach. Happy
Columbus Day! :) We
ventured south and made it to Virginia Beach, only to find some windy and cold
days, but it was still pretty. Walking along
the streets made me really crave some pizzas because almost half of all the
restaurants we passed were pizza parlors.
Doing a little research on the food in the area, we decided to go to
YNot Pizza & Italian Cuisine, which was just a little bit inland towards
Norfolk. Mmmm was that a good idea.
We arrived at the restaurant to face a super busy and super
full Friday night. We had to wait for a
table for about 10 minutes so I got a little bit of time to look over the menu
and take in the atmosphere. This place
was really fancy for a pizza place. The
restaurant was modern and had a more upscale feel to it with the fancy hanging
lights, pretty bar and granite counter and tabletops. There were several Halloweeny decorations
(like a witch at the front door holding to-go menus and lots of cottony spider
webs!) that made it a fun family environment.
Moments later, we got seated in our cushy booth. This place was really nice. The staff was very friendly and super
attentive. But now let’s move on to the
good stuff: the FOOD. We ordered the
Garlic rolls, an 18” bbq chicken pizza, and a buffalo chicken Stromboli. They also had calzones on the menu. I think I don’t know the difference between
the two anymore…
Mmm... dessert....
Garlic Rolls. These
came out super quickly. You get 6 in an
order, sprinkled in Parmesan and a bit of parsley. These little bits of garlic heaven are not
for the faint hearted. Rolled up like
cinnamon buns, these rolls are jam packed with minced garlic in between each
layer. They are super flavorful, crispy
on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, and an excellent vampire
deterrent. Hehe… If you love garlic, these are for you. If not, maybe you should probably scrape out
some of the garlic or opt for another app.
Next to reach my tummy was a bit of the buffalo chicken Stromboli. It came out a little smaller than I expected,
but did not lack in flavor or yumminess.
The sauce was not too strong and didn’t taste like it came from a
bottle. Just enough spicy, tangy, and
chicken. You got the choice of either
bleu cheese or ranch, so I got my favorite for wingy flavors- bleu cheese. It was mild and chunky, and complemented my Stromboli
well. The crust was nice and moist and
wasn’t burnt, like most others I have eaten.
The filling was a bit on the juicier side so it made the inside just a
bit soggier but it was still good. The
marinara that came with the bleu cheese was a bit watered down so I added my
cheese to make it a bit fuller.
Now for the pizza. This
pie came with 8 large slices that had good topping coverage. The chicken was juicy; there was lots of
sweet bbq sauce, and well-cooked onions.
The sauce was a little tangy and a touch more sweet. The crispy crust was not too thick on the
bottom and the edges were fluffy and airy on the inside. Not too floury with a nice chew. The crust can be a little tough for those
eating with dentures.
Since I couldn’t finish my pizza, we had to get a box to-go. Our waitress even boxed the pizza for us! She was really awesome all night. Our drinks were never empty, she constantly
came back to check on us, and was really attentive.
Overall, this was a great experience.
