Naan N Curry

Duluth, GA

A delightfully spicy adventure into Desi yummies

Welcome back, stuffies!  This week's travels takes Petchiboon and me to a local Pakistani/Indian restaurant in the Atlantan suburb of Duluth.  We found this little gem searching for curry on yelp.com and boy were we happy we did.  The convenient eatery was in a quiet shopping with plenty of private parking.  Inside was a clean and very open dining room that led to very reasonably priced yummies.

We walked right up to the front counter and placed our order.  Samosas, Chicken 65, Paneer Tikka Masala, Palak Paneer, garlic naan and mango lassi.

The first things to come out were the lassis and the samosas.  I forget which lassi Petchi got but I know he did enjoy it!  Maybe the salty one?  Hmm.  The mango lassi I ordered had lots of flavor and a nice consistency.  The samosas were flaky, crisp and spicy but not overwhelming.  They came with a little bit of tamarind sauce and some raita on the side.

The next tray of food that came out made me feel that maybe we ordered a little much for our little tummies.  A giant plate of rice (just one order!) was the first thing to catch my eye.  It was definitely enough to share among 4 to 6 people.  Don't be fooled by the picture; objects in photo are larger than they appear.

My paneer tikka masala (the reddish color curry bowl on the left) was a bit sweet and mild.  The tasty concoction was a nice foil to the much spicier palak paneer dish Petchi ordered (the other curry bowl in the picture ^_^ ).  It was a very slow heat that really just sneaks up on you and makes your tongue a little tingly.  There was a good balance of the cream, spices and spinach; nothing was too overpowering so you could taste each individual flavor.  The paneer was the best I ever had.  It had a good consistency and texture and not too salty like others I have had before.  So what is paneer you ask?  A cheesey-ish compound that is super popular in vegetarian Indian food.  Ok, so maybe you didn't ask but I did. :) All of the curries were nice and rich and not oily.

The chicken 65 and raita was a nice spicy delight too.  The chicken was crispy, juicy, and spicy.  Spicy like a quick high five to the face.  Hehe.  Like a shirt Petchiboon showed me when he was shopping one day...

But I really digress.  The reddened chicken was very flavorful and came with freshly sliced onions and jalapenos which kicked it up another notch or two.  I definitely was happy to have the extra raita to help tone down the heat.

And now for the naan.  Oh how I love naan.  Or bready things in general.  Maybe anything baked.  Hmmm.  The garlic naan was nice and big - bigger than my face.  And my head.  Actually, it was much bigger than me and Petchi put together.  A big fluffy frisbee of yumminess with the perfect amount of toastiness and bubbles.  There was lots of garlic and just enough butter on top to give it a nice sheen but not drown it in grease.

The service was nice and friendly.  You basically order up front at the counter and they bring it out to your table.  Then you throw away all the plates and utensils because it's all styrofoam or plastic.

We definitely will have to come back to partake in the curry in a hurry: a $5.99 lunch buffet and a $8.99 Sunday brunch buffet.  Just need to remember that they are closed on Mondays! ^_^

How Nuts Are We?
