Introducing Our New Rating Scale!
Hello fellow Stuffies! Trumpy and I were talking it over and we decided that it would benefit everyone to have a more objective rating scale that will help everyone understand just how much we enjoyed our adventure. We're calling it the "How Nuts Are We?" Coconut Scale. Trumpy and I both love a good coconut. We love the coconut water...so refreshing...fresh coconut meat...it's slimy in a good way...coconut milk...so creamy...shredded coconut...but I digress.
We'll rate the quality of the food, the service, and the repeat-ability. Repeat-ability could include the value of the eats or even our comfort level with the atmosphere. The Coconut Scale will run from 1-5 coconuts. A five coconut experience would be an adventure where the food was top notch and/or unique, has great service, and we would go back over and over again. A one coconut experience would be an adventure where we had quite a few issues that may not persuade us to make a repeat adventure. Hopefully, we will never have to share any adventures like this but you never know what the scary world may bring to us.
Anywhoos...Here's a mini food adventure for ya!
Even Hello Kitty Loves Beard Papa's! |
If you happen to be on the planet earth searching for a cream puff, look no further than Beard Papa's! Beard Papa's is an international chain that serves over 20 unique flavors of cream puffs. This Japanese based bakery is known for having the "World's Best Cream Puffs." So many options to choose from like the classic vanilla, chocolate banana, peaches and cream, sweet potato, just to name a few. Unfortunately, if you live in the United States, Beard Papa's is concentrated on the West Coast so you will have to travel there to get your cream puff fix.
I walked into the San Mateo location just before closing time. The only flavor they had left was the classic vanilla. I didn't mind since I didn't know if I could handle having to choose from all the different flavors that they offered. And since they were closing, I had to take my box o' puffs elsewhere to eat. I ended up at a nearby coffee shop. People were starting to stare at me and my box. I could tell they wanted some, but these were mine. All mine....
Let me tell you that these cream puffs are quite large. They were as big as my monkey head! They had a mini size cream puff, but I had no idea why anyone would want a mini until I started eating the regular. The outside was flaky and crispy and the inside was a thick custard loaded with flecks of vanilla. The creamy custard was chilled nicely and tasted of fresh vanilla. I'm not sure of the science behind keeping the custard chilled while keeping the outer pastry shell nice and crispy. It must be magic. Maybe they use the same magic as they do when they make cannolis. Maybe these cream puffs and cannolis are cousins. Crispy, flaky on the outside, and ooey gooey on the inside. Mmmmm....so good! So good that I ate two then.... and another for breakfast. :)
How nuts was I for Beard Papa's? I give them four coconuts. There were so many items and unique flavors to choose from that anybody wanting a dessert could find something to their liking. Even the plain ol' vanilla was an exciting flavor. I could go back over and over again and try something new each time. There are many different locations on the West Coast, but if you're pretty much out of luck if you are anywhere else in America. Maybe I should open my own Beard Papa's on the East Coast?
