Midlothian, VA
Welcome back, fellow foodies! This week's adventure is a short trip to a new restaurant in Midlo, Virginia. This place just opened up about 3 weeks ago and they are doing a pretty good job establishing themselves. They moved into an old fast food place off of the Turnpike. A fresh coast of paint and a few signs later, and they were up and running. The outside of the building and the lot itself could use a bit of sprucing up but what comes from the inside is definitely good enough to help me overlook that.
Their menu is short but covers just about everything you would want from a casual dining, Asian fusion restaurant. I decided to order online since there is a special 10% off coupon for all online orders. We decided on the teriyaki, which is also only $4.99 for grand opening promotions, and the General Tso's Chicken.
They even have a cute little outdoor eating area. (Yes, there is no dining room. Drive up or walk up service like Checkers.)
We drove down the street and drove up to the pickup window. If you don't order ahead of time, you can just pull through the drive-through and order here :)
A very polite and friendly woman greeted us at the second window. "Pick up order?" Yes, please! There weren't a lot of cars around but it's fun that she knew the online order was ours. She told us it would be about 5 more minutes. The next thing we knew, she was handing us free ice waters for waiting.
And look! Can't complain that they advertise their quick service! They really do follow through on that.
Just 3 minutes after we pulled up, about 8 minutes after our order was placed, our order came out of the window. The bag was quite hefty! I'm impressed already. What felt like 6 pounds of food for $12 after tax. The menu overall if quite reasonable priced. New go to for quick Asian? :)
I was really excited when we got home. The food smelled rather enticing and was really making me hungry.
The large portions did not let me down. The General Tso's Chicken came with fried rice (you can choose white or fried) that was quite tasty on its own. It had peas and corn bits thrown in, which made me feel like it was just a little bit healthier. hehe... There was lots of meat, fresh broccoli, and just a lot of food in general. The chicken had a nice familiar flavor- sweet, tangy and just a touch of spice. Not just tons of breading on little pieces of chicken too!
The Teriyaki on rice did not disappoint either. Lots of nicely cooked, tender chicken, seasoned well. This too has a very familiar flavor (not a bad thing!) and really meshed well with the veggies. The rice was nice and fresh, just like the medley of cabbage, broccoli, and carrots.
So, How Nuts Are We about Asian Chef?
