Welcome back foodies! Today I got to take my friend who was visiting from California to a place that serves some of my favorite kinds of food- BREAKFAST! :) We went to The Egg and I for some yummy eggs. This place is busy! The restaurant was almost completely full, will even a few groups waiting for a table. We were greeted by a few smiling and friendly faces and quickly seated in a cute booth in the corner. The walls were covered in cute country decor and flowers on every table. The servers were all really polite and attentive.
Look at all of the delicious breakfasts in this menu! Everything was under $10. The portions are large and are great values!
I got the spinach bacon and mushroom omelette. Lots of fresh spinach, bacon and portabella mushrooms covered in melted Swiss cheese, wrapped up in the fluffiest eggs I've ever had in an omlette. I got the hollandaise sauce on the side- and it's a good thing too because it was just greasy and loose and tasted like... fat. There weren't any special flavors or hidden tricks in the dish, but it was still really good and filling. Just stay away from the hollandaise :) The English muffin was thin and crispy- well toasted and tasted nice- especially with the apple butter you can find in the jelly basket on the table. The ranch potatoes were nice. They were a little on the salty side but the flavor was still quite nice.
Another dish we got was the corned beef hash. Nothing special but was good. It too was on the salty side but the flavor was bold and complimented the eggs nicely. It did feel like it was missing something, maybe a little bit of heat, but it was still pretty good. This was also served with your choice of toast- here we got raisin toast.
My other dining companion got the cordon bleu skillet. Diced chicken, ham and swiss cheese topped the tasty ranch potatoes in this skillet, which was a bit of a let down. It was bland and definitely needed a kick, which the house jalapeno pepper sauce helped with. I probably would not order this again on a return visit.
Overall, I had a very nice visit here. Pitchers of each drink were left on the table to ensure no cup ever went empty, our server made sure we always had what we needed and that we were comfortable.
